STUDENT LIFE
STUDENTS THRIVE AT SUMMIT
Student life at Summit Christian Academy is fast-paced, energized, and fun! Because of our size, students are able to quickly build friendships with each other and discover the benefits of our low student-to-teacher ratios. Throughout the year, students can participate in special events designed to build community and boost school spirit. Here is a brief look into the average day of a Summit student.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIFE
Every school morning at 8:25 A.M., Summit Christian Academy elementary students assemble in the Student Center for prayer, pledges, and announcements. Afterwards, each teacher leads her students to her classroom to begin the day with a Bible lesson. On Thursday mornings, students begin their day with chapel, a fun-filled time of worshiping and learning more about Jesus.
The rest of the day’s schedule will vary slightly, depending on grade level, but will include instruction in reading, phonics, writing, English, spelling, math, science, and social studies. At least once each day, elementary students will travel to a special class led by a qualified teacher in one of these subject areas: art, computers, library, music, physical education, or Spanish.
At lunch time, students gather in our cafeteria to enjoy either a lunch they have brought from home, or one purchased from our cafeteria. After enjoying a 30-minute lunch period, students then run and play on one of our two supervised playgrounds for a full 30 minutes of recess. Depending on the grade level, students may enjoy other recesses during the day.
Afternoon learning continues with teacher-directed, hands-on activities based on the subjects listed above. A student’s school day ends at 3:20 P.M. (3:05 P.M. for kindergarten students), when the student either returns home, participates in free after-school tutoring to sharpen his skills, or attends Small World Learning Center located right on our campus (for an additional cost).
This is a typical day in the life of an elementary student, but be sure to ask about the many special activities that occur throughout the school year when you visit on your personalized tour of SCA. Call 918-251-1997 today to set up a convenient time to visit.
SECONDARY SCHOOL LIFE
Secondary students (grades 7-12) begin their school day at 8:25 A.M. with prayer and pledges in their first-hour classes. Throughout the day, students will travel to seven 50-minute classes, receiving instruction in these five core subjects: math, science, history, English, and Bible. Additionally, students enroll in two elective courses, including subjects such as art, choir, drama, foreign language, and athletics.
Advanced Placement classes are available for those who qualify, and concurrent enrollment at Tulsa Community College or Tulsa Technology Center is another option students often choose.
Thursdays, students attend a one-hour chapel in the Student Center, where they experience the opportunity for personal spiritual growth, while enjoying community, student-led worship.
Each day, a morning nutritional break and an early afternoon lunch period allow students time to relax, socialize, and refuel for the remainder of the day.
The school day ends at 3:20 P.M., but many students stay longer for athletic or fine arts practices. CHAPEL SERVICES
Elementary and Secondary students participate in weekly chapel services designed to challenge students to grow in their walk with Christ. Services feature age-appropriate worship, activities, and devotions. Parents are always welcome to attend. Elementary and secondary chapels are lead by student leaders and pastors from TheAssembly.org.
